Money, Money, Money

Sometimes It Pays

Here is an article from the NY Times reporting on the Hollywood financier Ryan Kavanaugh: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/02/business/media/02kavanaugh.html. It appears that Mr. Kavanaugh struck a plea deal with the Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court's Malibu branch under which the Judge agreed to dismiss two out of three charges stemming from a 2006 arrest for allegedly sideswiping a LA police cruiser while driving drunk.

A few days before the plea agreement, Mr. Kavanaugh's lawyer asked the Court to consider all of Mr. Kavanaugh's charitable work. It seems a little odd that Mr. Kavanaugh has been a major contributor to one of the LA Sheriff's favorite charities, the Sheriff's Youth Fund. As a result of all of his charitable "work," Mr. Kavanaugh received a slap on the wrist and was ordered to pay fines and court costs and attend alcohol education and counseling.

So unless you are related to the sheriff or have recently given a substantial donation to the police department or to one of their charities you will definitely need a lawyer. Remember the prosecutor is not necessarily looking out for you or your rights but a competent lawyer will. Give us a call and remember...
